JANZ Ladies Group



JANZ Interest Groups
The JANZ Ladies Group offers a variety of activities/interests and is a good opportunity to meet people and experience different aspects of the Japanese lifestyle. The following interest groups are available to JANZ Members.
Newcomers are always welcome to join any of these groups.

Book Club 
The Book Group selects one book each month to be read and then to discuss it and share the pleasure of reading.
This is an opportunity to meet others interested in reading and discussing books, as well as meeting new people.
Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month at 13:00 hosted by different member each month.
 
Bowling 
Bowling Group meets once a month from 1pm, at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Complex. New players and beginners are welcome.
 
Bridge
The Bridge Group meets on every Friday at the public centre.
New players and beginners are welcome.
 
Cooks in the Kitchen
This group currently meets on Thursday and Friday once per month.
This involves cooking in each other’s homes on a rotating basis and everyone participates in the cooking and eating.
The hostess prepares the recipes and ingredients and participants to meet the cost of the ingredients.
 
Cross Cultural Activities & Coffee
The Cross Cultural Activities and Coffee group provides a great opportunity to meet new people & develop friendships while sharing and learning about each other’s culture.
We enjoy morning tea with discussions and fun activities such as craft, visiting exhibitions, restaurants, cooking classes and sharing cultural foods.
We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m.
 
Flamenco Dancing
Classes are held on Friday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 in Ebisu .
Babysitting services are available.

Golf 
First Monday of the month with visit to the driving range (hit-off13:00) for some practice and afternoon tea (or late lunch) afterwards.
Clubs can be hired at the range and lessons are available for beginners, as well as for those wishing to brush up their game.
We also play at various golf courses throughout the year including “JANZ Cup Tournament” in April/May.

Gourmet Group
There are two groups meeting on two different days each month.
These groups explores various restaurants around Tokyo on either a Monday or Friday each month.
You can enjoy delicious lunch with reasonable prices every time.

Ikebana (Japanese Flower Arrangment) 
Japanese follower arrangement is taught by Sogetsu Ikebana teacher.
This group  meets on Mondays and Thursdays from 12:00-14:30.
 
Japanese Calligraphy (Kanji, Brush & Pen) 
There are two classes, Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30-12:30 at teacher’s house.
Beginners are very welcome.
 
Japanese Conversation Group
We welcome any members interested in speaking a little conversational Japanese.
It is perfect way to put to use some of those lessons many of us have taken, or if you are a beginner, a great way to lean some useful phrases.
Join us for a fun relaxing morning and enjoy some Japanese conversation over a nice cup of coffee or tea.
 
JANZ Creative Craft Group 
Meeting held on Tuesday twice a month at member’s homes, this group enjoys exchanging craft ideas, working on individual craft project and enjoying a delicious afternoon tea.

Mahjong
Games are played regularly in member’s homes on dates that to suit the majority of the players.
Newcomers are very welcome. No experience required as instruction will be given at the sessions.
 
Movie of the Month
Ladies meet to watch interesting and topical movies one Wednesday morning per month (ladies’ day-it’s cheaper!) at Roppongi Hills theatre.
 
Playgroup
Meets every Thursday morning at member’s homes on a rotating schedule, including park dates and outings.
This playgroup is suitable for, but not restricted to, children up to the age of four.
 
Sumi-e Ink & Japanese Painting
Sumi-e is a Japanese word that means “ink painting”. Ink painting was first practiced in ancient China, and introduced to Japan by traveling Zen Buddhist monks around 1300 A.D.
The basis of sumi-e is calligraphy, with its simple yet purposeful line structure.
There are two classes one is held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 12 till 2pm and the other is held every Friday from 12 till 2pm.
This group is lead by acclaimed Japanese Sumi-e artist.
